Breathe. It sounds so simple, doesn’t it? Inhale. Exhale. We do it on a regular basis. It comes naturally to us. There are many definitions surrounding the word “breathe”, but my favorite of the bunch is “to feel free of restraint.”
I can’t help but think of Elsa’s “Let It Go,” when I think of the word breathe. It is so easy to get caught up in the feeling of needing to please people or with the feeling of needing everyone’s or just someone’s acceptance/love. So often we pull ourselves in different directions trying to be everything for everyone without realizing the toll that it can take on our view of ourselves. Sometimes we can wear so many different hats that we forget who we truly are at our core or sometimes that need to please people can tear away at us until we get to the point where we just have a general disdain for the human race. It’s when you’re stuck in that fog that you just need to let go.
Let go of the need to be loved by all. Let go of the need to please everyone. Take a moment and breathe because no matter what you do there is always going to be someone out there that doesn’t like you. Raymond Hull said “He who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away.” It just is not humanly possible to please everyone and as long as you’re existing to fulfill people’s ideas about who you SHOULD be, you’ll never KNOW who you really are.
However, maybe none of that applies to you. Maybe your situation is different and maybe it’s the stress of everyday life that is trying to keep you under its thumb. You still need to breathe, let it go and relax. In one of my previous post, I briefly touched on meditating as a way to relieve stress. Yut said “Meditation is a way to know your true self All you need to know is within yourself, seeking it externally in the world will only take you so far. You need to look within.” Most mediation videos will have you focus on your breathing and check in with yourself. One of my personal favorite audios is apart of a program called “Journey to a Loving Heart” by Gia George. The audio I am talking about is very simply called “Clear the Mind”. She helps you learn how to clear away all those thoughts that usually rush into our mind; all the stress, all the worry. Once all of those thoughts have been cleared away, I usually feel peaceful and centered. I can check in with my inner self and see how I am truly feeling and truly doing. It is like the world’s weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
No matter what you try you have to allow yourself a moment to just let it all go and breathe. Allow yourself to be immersed in solitude. Boyz II Men said it best “everybody needs a little time away, I heard her say, from each other.” Your solitude should be a time of rejuvenation. Whether it is meditation, a relaxing bath with a glass of wine or a jog, it should be a time where you allow yourself to let it all go and breathe. Incorporating this small step into your everyday life will have massive results on your journey. So let us go forth today with a new goal in mind: to let it go and breathe.
